Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd heat up the screen in this tale written by Graham Greene. Alan Ladd, as the cruel protagonist, received fourth billing on the film, but was the true star of the picture. For Veronica Lake, this was the second film she made sporting her peek-a-boo hairstyle which soon became her trademark.
